The Parent-Child Relationship in Fiction: A Craft Class with Sindya Bhanoo
The Parent-Child Relationship in Fiction with Sindya Bhanoo

The parent-child relationship is complex and ever-evolving, rich with material that can be used to create and build powerful fiction. In this class, we will consider different stages of parenthood: pregnancy/adoption, infancy, childhood and adulthood. We will read and discuss short pieces and generate work. Although this class will focus on fiction, we will look at non-fiction as well, and discuss techniques that are applicable to both genres. You will come away from this class with four new story ideas.

This craft class is ticketed ($35 plus fees) and capped at 35 attendees.
Purchase your ticket here! *Tickets on sale now!

Attendees! Here is a note from Sindya:
 1)  If you can, please bring a photo you like of a parent or a child (any age, an adult child is fine) or a parent and child together. A digital version of the image will work.
 2)  Please also bring an interesting letter, postcard or e-mail that you've received, or one that you've inherited or found. If it's from a parent to a child or a child to a parent that would be great. If not, that's fine too.

*This class is located in Events B on the first floor of the Spokane Central Library. There will be ASL interpreting provided at this event.

Combining the Personal and the Political: A Craft Class with Toni Jensen
Combining the Personal and the Political: Weaving your Stories with the World’s News

We’re all influenced by political or topical news—whether as a source of inspiration or outrage. This craft workshop provides structures and advice on how to blend the news from the world into your own personal narratives. We’ll be guided by some of the following questions: What does it mean to blend our own stories with those of others? What does it mean to incorporate research or current events into the stories of our lives? We’ll wrestle with these questions, both their ethical and practical concerns, and explore ways in which creative nonfiction can look both inward and out at the broader world.

This is a ticketed event ($35 plus fees) capped at 35 attendees. Purchase your ticket here! *Tickets will go on sale Monday, March 20th at 8am.
