Finding the Facts: A Reading and Conversation on Freelance Journalism

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Join us for a reading and conversation on the state of freelance journalism today. Journalism is at the heart of democracy, but it seems it is more challenging than ever to navigate this unique landscape. How do today’s journalists wrestle with public responsibility and the ever blurring line between opinion and fact? What ideas and obstacles does today’s journalistic landscape present to freelance writers? Writers and reporters Sindya Bhanoo, Vanessa A. Bee, and Leah Sotille will discuss the challenges and rewards of being a journalist/freelance reporter today. Sindya is a longtime journalist, who has reported for the New York Times and the Washington Post.  Vanessa’s nonfiction writing has appeared in N+1, The Cut, The New Republic, The Nation, and Guernica, among others. Leah is a contributor to the Washington Post, The New York Times Magazine, Playboy, Rolling Stone, and more. This conversation will be led by Emma Epperly, a general assignment reporter at the Spokesman-Review.

To attend this event, you must purchase a Book Fair & Events Pass which covers entry into our two-day Book Fair and all 17 events taking place at the Montvale Event Center. Tickets will go on sale Monday, March 20th at 8am.
